Chris Simonite's clunky, yet polished cut-out animations straddle the border between drawing and animation. A true multi-media artist, Simonite’s semi-autobiographical works focus on issues of modern masculinity and utilize his talents in visual arts and music as well as in voice acting. Simonite's irreverent animations poke fun at, among other things, religion and radical feminism while constantly deriding modern masculinity. In addition to this, Simonite never hesitates to take stinging jibes at his own persona.
Simonite is also a cartoonist whose work has appeared in many student newspapers as well as in diverse publications such as Canadian Dimension Magazine and cbc.ca.
In addition to this, Chris Simonite has created bodies of drawing work based on other issues of identity and belief. Included in this work is his series of drawings entitled (not) Darwin's Dogs. Among this series is one of his greatest accomplishments, a charcoal drawing of a dog pooping out a live kitten.
Chris Simonite has a BA (History and Geography) and a BFA (Hons) (Drawing and Video) from the University of Manitoba.
